Hotel Digon

The 4-star superior Hotel Digon is an excellent value base for a ski holiday in Val Gardena, with flights from Dublin making the Dolomites easy to reach. The hotel is family-run by the Stuflesser family, who have been welcoming guests for over 40 years, and sits in a quiet, elevated position above Ortisei with panoramic views across the valley to the surrounding Dolomite peaks. Recently renovated to a high standard, it offers a level of quality and character that would cost significantly more at many comparable hotels in the area. Ortisei village centre is approximately 1.7km away, but a free bus stops directly outside the hotel and runs regularly into the village and across Val Gardena, keeping the ski lifts, shops and restaurants within easy reach.

Rooms are finished in natural wood and Swiss pine, giving them a warm, contemporary alpine feel. The range runs from standard doubles through to spacious top-floor Majestic rooms of 30sqm and above, with elegant wooden floors, full-size bathrooms and unobstructed balcony views across the valley. All rooms come with satellite TV, safe, free Wi-Fi and a balcony or terrace as standard.

Half-board dining is included in your stay, and the quality is a real selling point. Dinner is a refined set menu built around local, seasonal South Tyrolean and Trentino recipes, with many ingredients sourced from the family's own farm. A sommelier is on hand to guide you through the wine list. Breakfast features homemade cakes, fresh pastries and a generous sweet and savoury buffet. Gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan and vegetarian diets are all catered for. It is the kind of hotel food that genuinely enhances your holiday rather than just filling a gap.

The hotel's heated outdoor infinity pool is a standout feature, set into the hillside with views stretching across Val Gardena. The wellness area includes a sauna, hammam, steam room and hot tub, and there is a garden with sun loungers.
